Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday, May 13th. These fun, easy, homemade crafts for kids will be sure to delight moms everywhere! And most of the supplies are probably already in your home!  Moms, if you think your kids might need a little inspiration, or a reminder, print this article and leave it on the kitchen counter you might get some creative surprises on Sunday!

Coupon bouquet

Sometimes actions speak louder than words. Show Mom how much she means to you with this neat bouquet of coupons!

Materials:

  • craft sticks
  • colored paper
  • marker
  • glue
  • scissors
  • vase
  1. Cut out some flower shapes from the colored paper. Glue your flower to one end of a craft stick, leaving most of the handle bare.
  2. On the bare end of the craft stick, write your coupon. Get creative! Your coupons could be chores around the home (“2 days of clearing the table” or “2 weeks of taking out all the trashcans”), activities to do together (“5 walks in the park” ), or something to remind your mom how much you love her (“unlimited hugs!).
  3. Place your flowers in the vase, admire your coupon bouquet! Remember to follow through with your coupons!

Paper blossoms

Unlike real flowers which will pass with time, this colorful project will continue to delight long past Mother’s Day.

Materials:

  • Tissue paper in various colors
  • Scissors
  • Tape, or glue
  • Assorted branches
  1. Cut the tissue paper into 3 inch squares.
  2. Twist the center of each square to form a “blossom”.
  3. Tape or glue the blossoms to your branch.

Extra tip: Put the blossom branch in a vase so Mom can enjoy your beautiful creation!

  3. Create a scroll by rolling each strip of paper tightly. Secure with a piece of ribbon or string.
  4. Stuff your scrolls into you jar. Decorate your jar with ribbon, pictures.
  5. Put the jar somewhere Mom will find it (by her bed, the breakfast table). Enjoy watching her as she opens each of the scrolls!

  • non-toxic craft paint
  • paintbrush

  2. Carefully place your hand on the paper. Firmly press your hand on the paper like a stamp. Don’t wiggle, or your flower may smudge.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to create additional flowers. Experiment with colors, how spread out your fingers are, or combine multiple hand prints to make a larger flower!
  4. Wash your hands!
  5. Add details to your flowers (stems, leaves, etc) with the paint brush.
  6. Let your masterpiece dry before giving it to Mom!
